About the Role

Join our warm and supportive team at Aspiring (Wānaka), where your clinical nursing skills will be at the centre of your role, supported by customer care responsibilities.

This is a permanent role (32 guaranteed hours per week), plus the occasional Saturdays on a shared roster, offers the opportunity to focus on hands-on veterinary nursing while contributing to a welcoming and efficient front-of-house experience when needed.

What you'll be doing

As one of our Veterinary Nurses, you'll play an important role in supporting our veterinarians, caring for patients and helping ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the clinic.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting veterinarians with medical and surgical procedures.
  • Administering medications and treatments under veterinary direction.
  • Monitoring patients during sedation, anaesthesia and recovery, responding appropriately to changes in condition.
  • Preparing surgical theatres, equipment and instruments, ensuring they are maintained and sterilised to a high standard.
  • Providing inpatient nursing care and monitoring hospitalised patients.
  • Performing routine diagnostic tests and assisting with clinical procedures.
  • Communicating with clients about admissions, treatment plans, surgery updates, discharge instructions and ongoing patient care.
  • Providing advice on preventative healthcare, nutrition and veterinary products.
  • Maintaining accurate clinical records and supporting the completion of treatment charging.
  • Assisting with stock control and maintaining clinic supplies.
  • Supporting junior Veterinary Nurses and Animal Care Assistants through coaching and day-to-day guidance where appropriate.
  • Working collaboratively with the wider clinic team while following business policies, clinical protocols and health and safety requirements.

What we're looking for

To be successful in this role you'll have:

  • A Diploma in Veterinary Nursing (or an equivalent recognised qualification).
  • Minimum of 1 - 5 years' experience working as a qualified Veterinary Nurse with a proven track record of excellence in patient care and surgical support.
  • New Zealand working rights.

You'll also bring:

  • Experience providing high-quality veterinary nursing care and supporting surgical procedures.
  • Confidence monitoring anaesthesia and patient recovery.
  • Knowledge of veterinary nursing practices, equipment and diagnostic procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • A professional, compassionate and positive approach to patient care.
  • A willingness to support and mentor less experienced team members.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous learning.
